Coaching skills are increasingly recognised as important skills for educational leaders at all levels.

The three-phase Coaching Accreditation Program is a highly practical and evidence-based coach training program for teachers and educational leaders looking to make a positive contribution to professional practice and impact whole-school improvement.

Over 5000 school staff have already completed this program and have seen the positive effects of coaching impact staff and student well-being and success. The transformational effect of coaching has become a key factor in the way schools engage with their communities.

An optional Phase 4 is offered to those who would like to proceed to full Growth Coaching International Coach Accreditation which attracts university accredited prior learning status at post-graduate level.

Who Is This Program Suitable For?

The Coaching Accreditation Program is suitable for any educational leader who wishes to significantly build coaching skills and develop a solid platform of practical skills, knowledge, models and tools for effective coaching of staff, students and the wider community.

This program can be run within a school (minimum 12 participants) or within a community of schools. Individuals may wish to attend a public program - these are available in all regions. Refer to Current Workshops for dates.


Program Objectives

The Coaching Accreditation Program (Phases 1-3) is designed to:
  • Build confidence and skill to use the GROWTH Coaching System in a range of coaching contexts
  • Offer access to GROWTH coaching system resources, tools and techniques
  • Share access to the GCI reflective practice supervision process
  • Offer an opportunity to proceed smoothly to full accreditation status in Phase 4
  • Provide recognised prior learning at certain post-graduate university courses

Program Structure

The Coaching Accreditation Program involves participation in three phases. An optional Phase 4 is required for full Growth Coaching International Coach Accreditation.

Phase 1

Two day workshop.

Phase 2

Flexible external learning phase including telephone coaching, readings, coaching practice and a coaching-in-action project.

Phase 3

Two day workshop.

Phase 4

Six individual
coaching sessions and completion of coaching project.


Outline

Phase 1:

This phase will provide a balance of theory and practical application, including significant modelling of coaching practice. Participants will have opportunities to practice coaching in a highly supportive environment.

Introduction and intensive training in the following concepts and coaching applications will be provided:

  • Introduction and overview: Executive coaching and leadership
  • What coaching is and isn’t
  • The GCI 3 elements of good coaching practice
  • The 8 step GROWTH coaching model: An in-depth exploration of each step in the GROWTH model
  • Coaching ‘way of being’, including Emotional Intelligence, values and coaching practice
  • Goal setting
  • These 2 days will include practical modelling and practicing of coaching skills, methods and techniques.
Phase 2:

Phase 2 serves to build upon and reinforce concepts introduced during Phase 1. In addition, you will work on managing the coaching process whilst learning about, and applying, the GCI coaching system.

This phase will include:
  • Modeling by GCI facilitators on the GROWTH coaching model and a recommended structure of individual practice sessions focusing on:
    • Setting the foundation, co-creating the relationship, planning, goal setting and 8 key coaching skills
    • Creating awareness and designing actions
    • Managing a coaching conversation – relationship issues and effective communication skills
    • Giving feedback and facilitating learning and results
  • Participants coaching each other based on the materials covered to date
  • Telephone coaching skill development
  • Participants will explore typical coaching scenarios and be provided with a range of tools and techniques to address those in the coaching process. This will include goals associated with leadership development, time management, performance management.

Note: Participants will cover their own costs for telephone connections associated with Phase 2 coaching practice.

Phase 3:

A significant focus of phase 3 includes input and modelling on managing challenging conversations and giving feedback. This Phase will have a highly participatory focus.

Specifically, the 2 days will address:
  • Review of coaching experiences to date
  • Coaching the Positive theories that underpin the GCI coaching approach
  • Giving feedback in coaching: Positive-based feedback and Concern-based feedback
  • Facilitating change in coaching
  • Establishing the right environment for successful coaching
  • Identification of individual coaching goals for skill/knowledge development
  • Leadership coaching: Practical and ethical issues, establishing a coaching agreement, accountability and record tracking
  • Action planning through a group coaching process
Phase 4 (optional; required for GCI Coach Accreditation) offers:
  • Six individual coaching sessions providing a skilled coaching experience
  • An opportunity to be coached on your coaching
  • Supervision support for work with a real coaching client

Contribution to Registered PD hours


Completing the four-day Phase 1 to 3 Coaching Accreditation Program addresses the following domains and standards for Lead teacher from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as published by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL): 3.1.4, 3.5.4, 6.1.4, 6.2.4, 6.3.4 and 7.3.4 The duration of the program is 30 hours.



Completing Phase 1 to 3 of Coaching Accreditation Program will contribute 30 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 1.3.4, 2.2.4, 2.3.4, 3.1.4, 3.5.4, 4.3.4, 5.2.4, 6.1.4, 6.2.4, 6.3.4, 6.4.4, 7.1.4, 7.3.4 and 7.4.4 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Lead Teacher Accreditation in NSW.


Certificate

Upon completion you will receive a GCI certificate of participation. You may also wish to add the program to your LikedIn qualifications.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at University level

Upon completion of Phase 4 of the Coaching Accreditation Program, Recognition of Prior Learning is offered on the following:

Under Macquarie’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy you may apply for up to four units of credit based on previous postgraduate studies, professional development and training, and work experience. This could mean a reduction of up to one third in the cost of, and time taken to complete, your degree.

Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology and MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, University of East London UK, which is offered via distance learning. Phase 4 Graduates may be eligible for credit points (30 Credit points, non-UK residents only).

  • Presently in a role in an educational organisation (including school, university, TAFE, related Head Office role or other private or government education institutions) or a not-for-profit organisation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I be a fully accredited coach once I have completed this program? Full GCI Coach Accreditation status is gained after competition of the optional Phase 4 of this program. Find out more info@growthcoaching.com.au
  • What will be required in the non-workshop Phase 2 of this program? During Phase 2 participants will have the opportunity to pair up and practice some of the coaching methods taught in the Phase 1 workshop. You will also be given on-topic reading and video-watching assignments to further strengthen your learning. Participants will receive the support and practical guidance of their facilitator during this period.
  • I am not sure I can commit to both workshop dates (four days in total)? Participants are required to commit to the entire program – including attendance at all workshop days during Phases 1 and 3 on the nominated dates and location. If you think that your participation may clash with other commitments, it is strongly recommended to re-enrol into another program, to ensure minimum disruption to other participants. For more details, consult our ‘Terms and Conditions’ below.

Terms and Conditions

By registering for any of the above events the following cancellation policy applies:
  • All cancellations or changes must be requested in writing or by email to info@growthcoaching.com.au
  • If unable to attend the program you may transfer:
    *your registration to another nominated person
    *to another program. However, only one change is allowed. Rescheduling must take place within 12 months of initial program.
  • Cancellations up to 5 days prior to the workshop:
    *$100 plus GST administrative fee for rescheduling requests or nominating another attendee or
    *50% of the program fee plus GST for refund requests.
  • Cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled workshop:
    * $150 plus GST administrative fee for rescheduling requests or nominating another attendee or
    *75% of the program fee plus GST for refund requests.
  • No refunds or credits for “no-shows” on the day of the workshop will be granted.
  • In the event that the Program is cancelled, registrants will be reimbursed their registration fee.
